Learning Support Programme
|The Anglo-American School of Moscow is an independent, not-for-profit co-educational school that offers an educational programme from Nursery (3 years) to grade 12 for English-speaking students. It operates a branch in St Petersburg which moved into a newly renovated facility has been opened in January 2012 to accommodate the growing needs of student enrolment.
The school year extends from mid-August to mid-June. The school is governed by a School Board composed of members from the US, British and Canadian Embassies and other communities. 1,200+ students from 60 countries follow an international curriculum that ensures a solid foundation in the English language, mathematics, science and social studies. Russian, French, Spanish, art, music, computer skills and physical education are also included. The curriculum for grades 11-12 is based on the International Baccalaureate programme that provides a broad academic spectrum of studies and develops interests beyond the normal curriculum. Students completing the full IB programme typically receive priority placement at universities and may be offered first-year credit for their higher-level courses. The Elementary School offers the IBO Primary Years Program. Pupil Support Services provide an inclusive Pre-K through Gr.12 multidisciplinary support system that respects learner differences and facilitates attainment of AAS's high educational standards. This program provides for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities that can be serviced in a mainstream environment with appropriate additional support not totaling more than 5 hours per week.
The faculty consists of 140 qualified and experienced teachers, recruited primarily from the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. The school launched its second fifty years with the opening in August 2000 of a purpose- built 1,200+ student campus that brings together students from Nursery (3 years) to grade 12. Large attractive classrooms provide a secure and stimulating environment for learning. The facilities include an extensive library, ten science laboratories, four computer/media laboratories, six art rooms, five music rooms, a 630-seat theatre, three dining rooms, one equipped with a stage, indoor Aquatic complex, two gymnasia, an aerobics/dance studio, two exercise rooms, three football (soccer) pitches, including one with all weather turf, and three tennis courts, one of the two playgrounds is all weather turf covered. The Anglo-American School is accredited by the Council of International Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organization. It is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the Central and Eastern European Schools Association.
